Why you need a gas mask too

Gas masks – as the name implies – are masks that are used to prevent the inhalation of harmful airborne substances. Using a gas mask, wearers are protected from airborne pollutants as well as toxic gases that can cause grievous harm to the body.

In the military, there are certain times when unfavorable conditions can ensue without proper protection. Gas leaks, for one, is a situation that these soldiers are often exposed to. More so, it is one that the traditional ballistic helmets have no power to prevent or stop from harming the wearer. This is why it is also important to have gas mask in a good distance when going on operation where the likelihood of a gas leak is probable.

Depending on the design, gas masks are designed to cover the nose, mouth, eyes, and other vulnerable parts of the face. Field protective masks are used by the military for protection against the digestion, inhalation, as well as the contact of toxic gases with any part of the body.

Gas masks are designed with in-built filters that automatically sieve out the clean air for the wearer’s breathing. Often times, combined gas masks can last around 8 to 20 hours in nuclear biological chemical (NBC) situations. Gas mask filters are also used to protect the wearer from particles and biological agents.

While the use of chemical weapons for warfare has been banned under the 1925 Geneva Protocol, there are still records of the unlawful use of chemical weapons of the years. So, while we really want to tell you not to worry about being exposed to lung-melting chlorine or asphyxiating gas, we can’t. Instead, we’d rather recommend that you have a gas mask in handy. This would not only keep you safe, it would keep you unscathed too.
